Understanding the Use of Physical Intervention in a Security capacity.

Do you know how to handle yourself in a dangerous situation?  Do you know how to protect yourself should you need to?  Well if you are thinking of entering the security industry, it is vitally important that you know how to deal with a conflict situation in a legal and proper manner should one arise.  Remember that the use of force is always a last resort measure for resolving conflict.  When force is necessary to deal with a situation you will learn when receiving your SIA licence training that only reasonable force to the degree of controlling and preventing conflict will be advised. Physical intervention does not necessarily refer to the use of force to get a situation under control.  It can also take the form of making use of simple restraining techniques to bring an individual to a state of calm or to get a situation under control.  If violence is clearly in the air a security worker can restrain the individual who is about to commit an act of violence by taking hold of him or her in a light manner until said individual has calmed down and regained their composure.  Restraining an individual in a violent situation should be the first response to any threatening situation, but should this fail, it is of the utmost importance to request backup. Conflict management through physical intervention is closely regulated within SIA training and any individual who makes use of excessive force to deal with a situation or who over steps their boundaries which are clearly put forward by the law will be at risk of losing their jobs while also facing criminal charges.
